There are numerous embroidery kits containing black or dark base in PANNA range. Canvas squares are hardly visible because of the base colour, and it can make your work process difficult. We have prepared for you some tips and advice which make embroidering on dark canvas much easier and nicer.

Tip № 1. Embroidering on dark canvas should be done in the right light. It is better to direct lamp light at a low angle (not perpendicular to canvas). In such a way, convex canvas parts cast shadow, and fabric texture becomes more visible, which in turn helps during embroidering. For better lighting you can set one more lamp (or any other lighting device, not too bright) under your embroidery at an angle. In such a way, canvas squares become more visible. White base can be used as an alternative to the second lamp: put a white sheet of paper, napkin or a piece of fabric on your knees or on a table; you can also put on white cloth and etc.

Tip № 2. Before embroidering you can cover fabric with piece of dry baby soap or tailor's chalk. In such a way, the base texture and canvas squares would be more visible. After finishing work, do not forget to rinse the finished embroidery properly to remove remaining soap or chalk.

Tip № 3. Before embroidering, line canvas with light threads or a special tool for marking of dark fabric. For example, you can use the fabric marking pen Gamma (item PFW 01 white). Before using the tool, read the instruction carefully and follow it during your work. Try the fabric marking tool on the canvas edge. Do not stitch the threads (which mark the canvas) with cross stich during embroidering. After finishing your embroidery, pull the marking threads out the fabric.

Tip № 4. Embroider elements one by one (not in separate parts). Unlike bright and light colours of canvas, it is easier to make a mistake when counting down the distance between two segments on dark canvas. To avoid such mistakes, embroidering on dark/black canvas should be done sequentially.

Tip № 5. To make squares on dark/black canvas more visible, you can use white band-aid. Put a piece of band-aid on your fingers involved in embroidering. When you put a needle into canvas on the wrong side, the canvas squares near the needle will be more visible against the background of white band-aid.
